Lotus Dining’s fifth restaurant, Madame Shanghai, opened in the central Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in April 2017.
The restaurant, whose name was coined for its celebration of Shanghainese street food, has a modern Chinese design with variations on texture throughout the space. The ‘green’ room, or cocktail and open kitchen area, has a beautiful restored marble herringbone floor and oriental lanterns that frame the bar and open kitchen. The ‘blue’ room has a more traditional feel, with a feature ceiling, mirrored walls and custom plush carpet.
The most impactful feature in this fitout however, has to be the lighting. Carefully placed LED strip lighting enhances the mood and design details, accompanying strategically placed lanterns and tea lights throughout the venue.
From design to fitout, Storepro partnered with Lotus Dining to create custom fittings, joinery and furniture, before installing them with meticulous attention to detail. The design for the space itself was a challenge, with so many different materials and textiles being used; from the stretching of rattan panels, to the laser cutting of acrylic symbols, and using two PAC auto grade paint to achieve the effect of brass.
The manufacturing of bespoke elements tested our production and in-house design team, however the stunning combination of materials and overall appearance of the completed space made it all worthwhile, and we were thrilled to have achieved this with Lotus Dining.
